Enfield Town – Season Review 2020/21

2020/21 – Premier League – End of Season Review

Last season was very good. This one was amazing. I really don’t know how else to sum it up.

Barclays Premier League (stats)

What a season!  Despite having to play a squad of reserves in some fixtures due to cup commitments, we somehow finished third! In the first half of the season we sat around the top half of mid-table but we kicked on as the other teams seemed to drop off and managed a late flourish to grab a Champions League spot!

UEFA Europa League (stats)

Our first time in Euroupean competition, and to be fair, I didn’t expect much. The demolition of Omonoia was expected, but to beat Rosenborg so convincingly was not. We were third seeds in a tough group, but we topped it, only losing our final game away to Porto. We were lucky in practically every game of the knock-outs, our win over Tottenham in the semi-final in particular, where we scored in the 3rd added minute at the end of the 90. To beat TWO north London rivals on the way to the title was especially pleasing!

FA Cup (stats)

We had a very easy run in this competition, which allowed us to play backup players in many of the games but still progress. Chelsea took us all the way to penalties but whilst they bottled it on penalties, we didn’t!

Capital One Cup (stats)

We got a difficult third round draw, but once we overcame that, Mansfield were a walk in the park. Blackburn got the reserves treatment, and it almost cost us. Man City are four times Premier League winners, and we didn’t really deserve to beat them. Moyes’ United were pushovers. A bit like in real-life at the moment.

Dan Crowley was a huge signing. He has been vital to our success this season. Booth and record-signing Lessman have also been key figures.

All players out were important in our past, but now no longer effective. The fans were extremely sad to see Drage go, but despite being a club icon he was only League One level.

Youth Intake

Still no-one worth signing.

Next Season

I really don’t know what we’re capable of any more. I’ll aim for another season of Champions League qualification, and it’d be great if we can sneak through our group, too.
